HWL Contains Staffing Costs For Healthcare Organizations

In February, 2020, healthcare facilities and providers across the nation were hit with an unexpected, desperate need for staff. Healthcare Workforce Logistics (HWL) was called on by state organizations and hit the ground running to connect healthcare professionals with communities and organizations who need help as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Working with the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) and the Georgia Department of Health (DPH), HWL provided staff to over hundreds of facilities all while using market data to pay competitive rates to talented staff while containing costs for the state.

Key Facts:

  • HWL kept ICU and MedSurg nursing rates in Georgia lower than they were in Texas, Florida, and national averages
  • Staff was provided to 91 hospitals and 182 skilled-nursing facilities
  • HWL helped the Georgia DCH remain below the national median for ICU, ER, and MedSurg hourly pay rates

DCH Program Costs

The costs of providing care, vaccinations, and tests throughout the pandemic has strained many hospital systems. Healthcare Workforce Logistics was able to contain the Georgia DCH’s costs through continual assessment of market rates, and a dedication to supplier engagement.

Through our unique platform and program structure, which are designed from the ground up with cost containment as a priority, we were able to place strategic emphasis on continual market rate assessments. Additionally, our dedication to supplier engagement and neutrality created competition and attracted top talent by offering competitive compensation packages without driving up costs.

In the first 18 months of the pandemic, HWL provided staff to the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) in over 275 locations across the state. Staff were provided to acute care, rehab and long-term acute care, temporary medical units, and behavioral health facilities.

In total, HWL deployed nearly 8,000 nurses (RN’s), licensed practical nurses (LPN’s), and certified nursing assistants (CNA’s) to over 250 locations. These surge staffers together provided over five million hours of service and care—that adds up to over 570 years.
